The town is located in a central zone of la Terreta, at 1109 meters of height, near of Espluga de Serra, and at the top of the small ravine of Torogó. In Castellet there are two interesting touristic places, the Church of la Mare de Déu de l'Esperança and the ruins of its old castle. The Church contains a nave, a portal and a covered bell tower. In the year 1071 someone quoted something about the castle in the will of Arnau Mir de Tost, who had rights which passed to the Church of Urgell. Few years after, it was object of transactions between the counts of Pallars Jussà and Pallars Sobirà. The year 1787 it had 40 h. and the year 1831 it belonged to the Marquis of Gironella. The cave called Espluga Llorna of Castellet was inhabited in the Bronze Age. They have found archaelogical rests. From Castellet, one can observe the Beech of Lleràs, from the Siberian region, which has a great geo-botanical interest. The year 1787 there were 40 inhabitants in the town, which were reduced to 25 in the year 1831. Since the sixties the population started to decrease until the three inhabitants who are there actually. |
