The town of Orrit is situated at 35 kilometers in the North-West of Tremp. It is in the top of a hill of 854 meters and it is one of the gateways to the zone of la Terreta.
If someone wants to access to the town, he has to take the road N-230, which goes from Lleida to Vielha, in Areny. On the other side of the road there is the bridge that crosses the river Noguera Ribagorçana and gives access to Pont d’Orrit.
The name of the town comes from the Basque word urruti that means distant.
The most important places to visit are the old Romance Church of Sant Pere and the castle of Orrit, which are already called in the year 826.
The abandonment of the town gave birth to the small village of Pont d’Orrit, which is situated in the left side of the river Noguera Ribagorçana. A lot of years ago, there was a bridge of Medieval structure (possibly of the Romance Age), which is situated at 100 meters up to the river of the actual bridge and there only remain uprights in both sides of the river.
Actually, 17 people live in Pont d’Orrit.
